Originally founded in 1836, Annandale Distillery ceased production in 1919 and lay dormant for almost a century. In 2007, Professor David Thomson and Teresa Church acquired the historic site, embarking on an extensive restoration project. By 2014, distillation resumed — and in 2024, the distillery marked a proud milestone with the release of its first 10-year-old single malt whiskies.
10-Year-Old Single Malt Releases
The distillery unveiled two 10-year-old, single cask, single malt expressions:
Man O’Words 10-Year-Old – Cask #125
An unpeated whisky matured in a first-fill ex-bourbon cask from Buffalo Trace, bottled at a robust 58.8% ABV. Expect stewed apple, pear, apricot, coconut, creamy vanilla, and toffee.
Man O’Sword 10-Year-Old – Cask #69
A peated expression also matured in a fresh ex-bourbon cask and bottled at cask strength (57.9% ABV). Aromas of subtle wood smoke evolve into notes of Granny Smith apple, vanilla, cream soda, spice, and toffee.
Limited Availability and Pricing
Both expressions are limited single cask releases:
• 234 bottles of Man O’Words
• 224 bottles of Man O’Sword
Each is priced at £110, bottled at cask strength and non-chill filtered to preserve the whisky’s natural character.
Man O’Words pays tribute to Robert Burns, Scotland’s national bard, who lived in nearby Dumfries from 1788 until his death in 1796.
Man O’Sword honours King Robert the Bruce, the 7th Lord of Annandale and one of the most pivotal figures in Scotland’s path to independence.
Craftsmanship and Philosophy
Annandale champions a single cask philosophy — each cask is assessed individually and only bottled when it reaches optimum maturity. There is no blending, no chill filtration, and no compromise. The result is a whisky that speaks for itself: full of provenance, character, and individuality.
These 10-year-old expressions are more than just a celebration of age — they are a symbol of Annandale’s unwavering dedication to crafting Scotch whisky of the highest calibre, with reverence for history and a focus on quality above all else.
