About Tamnavulin Distillery
Tamnavulin Distillery, nestled in the heart of Speyside, Scotland, at the hamlet of Tomnavoulin in Glenlivet, was established in 1966 by the Tamnavulin-Glenlivet Distillery Company, a subsidiary of Invergordon Distillers (1975) Ltd. The site’s history traces back to a 16th-century meal mill, reflected in the Gaelic name “Tamnavulin,” meaning “mill on the hill.” Situated amid the foothills of the Cairngorm Mountains, the distillery draws pristine spring water from a natural well on its grounds, essential for its production process.
Equipped with three wash stills and three spirit stills, Tamnavulin boasts an annual production capacity of approximately 4m litres of new make spirit. It underwent expansions in 1975 and 1997, enhancing efficiency during the whisky industry’s boom years. The distillery was acquired by Whyte & Mackay in 1993 following Invergordon’s liquidation.
