About Glenlossie Distillery
Glenlossie is the quintessential Speyside workhorse single malt, founded in 1876 by John Duff on the banks of the River Lossie near Elgin in Moray, a region celebrated for its light, elegant drams. The distillery’s name reflects its serene location beside the Bardon Burn, whose pure waters have fuelled production for nearly 150 years.
Today, it remains one of the few Speyside sites to operate with quiet efficiency, sharing its grounds with sister distillery Mannochmore and producing spirit almost entirely for Diageo’s global blends. Fully acquired by Diageo in 1997 via the Guinness-GrandMet merger, Glenlossie benefits from the world’s largest spirits company, which owns 28 malt distilleries and commands a 29 percent share of global Scotch.
Its hallmark profile—light, grassy and apple-forward with a subtle waxy texture—emerges from extended fermentation of up to 120 hours and unique purifier pipes on the spirit stills that retain only the purest heart of the distillate. Core production uses three wash stills and three spirit stills, yielding 3.9 million litres of pure alcohol annually. Glenlossie floor-malts none of its barley, relying instead on industrial malt from Diageo’s supply chain and draws soft water from local springs. All spirit matures in ex-bourbon casks in shared dunnage and racked warehouses.
