About Caperdonich Distillery

Initially known as Glen Grant No.2., the distillery had periods of great activity, and decades of silence, before finally being shuttered in 2002 and demolished in 2011 by its last owners, Pernod Ricard.

In the early days, Glen Grant No.2 was only open for four years when it closed in 1902, like many distilleries of the time affected by the whisky crash of the start of the 20th century. It remained dormant until 1965 until it was renovated and reopened by its new owners, Glenlivet. Not long after, new regulations came into effect which said there could not be two distilleries with the same name so it was renamed to Caperdonich, chosen in reflection of the distillery’s water source.
