About Bruichladdich Distillery
Founded in 1881 on Islay’s Rhinns, Bruichladdich Distillery overlooks Loch Indaal and is renowned for its innovative Scotch whisky production. Celebrated for unpeated, terroir-driven single malts like The Classic Laddie and heavily peated expressions such as Port Charlotte and Octomore, the world’s most peated whisky, it blends Victorian-era equipment, including a rare open-top mash tun with cutting-edge techniques.
Acquired by Rémy Cointreau in 2012, Bruichladdich champions transparency through traceable local barley, often sourced from specific Islay farms, and it has a pioneering sustainability agenda targeting carbon neutrality by 2025 with a £2.8 million investment in eco-friendly distillation. Its diverse cask types, from bourbon to Sauternes, yield flavours ranging from floral and citrusy to robustly smoky, captivating diverse palates. With a production capacity of 1.8 million litres of pure alcohol annually, Bruichladdich remains a boutique operation, prioritising quality, creativity and a progressive ethos that honours Islay’s heritage while pushing whisky-making boundaries.
